      Petition For Fastpath On Sky!

Skyuser should make a petition for gamers to get put on FASTPATH. As this would greatly decrease the pings and make the quality of gaming much better! Actually... It will make everything better, web browsing, downloading, torrents/newsgroups. So we should get as much people to sign a petition to make FASTPATH available. Or just a gaming package!

      Ok pings. (24/05/08)

3 months ago not knowing what i do know i would have totally agreed with you. However, interleave gives a more stable connection for everything. I am a gamer and am fortunate enough to have a line that will /would support fastpath if it was available, what you have to understand is that the majority of customers do not fall into the same bracket as me. Dont get me wrong as I would hope that in the future sky will recognize that some users could benefit from being offered fastpath, the polls on this site are working towards this. If it was your company would you release a service that created problems for the majority and was ok for a few or vice versa ?

I just think they should give different packages to different users. E.g. a gamer package where they would be put on fastpath, cause gamers will use it more for gaming = lower pings.

As a gamer who used to do alot of "pro" gaming as in tournament etc there is no noticable difference in ping from 30ms to 50-60ms what you should be more concerned with is packetloss. Which with correct interleaving settings will allow a perfectly playable connection. while sky could offer fastpath it is not at the moment what I would call a money maker.

As for your comments in the other thread on the same subject about better web browsing etc. May I suggest perhaps reading up on interleaving and fastpath and associated technologys and where each would be used on different lines.

30 - 60 ping is a huge difference. I do 'Pro' gaming aswell, I attend Halo 2 tournaments. And without a decent connection, I cannot HOST games on my connection, which is not good for my team to practice. And also, there is a noticable different when shooting on games... The other person will 'Outshoot' you. It's so frustrating. Because person with the 30 ping, their HOST will be better.

      Try this thread

      Dear Sky Broadband

We have tried to ask Sky to make it an option for Gamers whilst on Sky and have certainly voiced our point of view.

If Sky could do this, then they will stitch up the broadband market. At the moment I would bet they are losing potential signups because they do not.

We know the reasons why Sky don't offer it, but the potential is there to create a completely new Gamers package, and maybe charge a little extra.

Re: Petition For Fastpath On Sky!

My ping on entanet was 20, on sky it's 38. The difference is very marginal and I very much doubt my gaming has got worse because of it.

Fast path would be nice but if my line stays this stable I wont be too bothered. Packet loss will spoil your gaming alot more than a high ping, I used to be on pipex and I had 60% packet loss from 8pm-midnight every day

A "Pro" gamer that didn't play UT99 insta? Either that or a "Pro" gamer who fails to see the effect of pings in insta UT series games? Hmmmm

The difference between 25/30 ping and 60/65 ping is HUGE in insta UT games...
