With reference to the upload and download capabilities of the Sky Mid package yes it is capable of Xbox Live play.

My ping is horrible on Mid- wouldn't personally recommend it. Was around 5 times lower on Be* at 20 while Sky hits around 100 at times.

Maybe Sky think people are ignorant to pings etc? Seems they don't know the potential customer base.

how about instead of saying there ignorant you look at some of the threads on here. u will see its because of the interleaving, pings should be between 50-80ms, if YOU call then when it gets to Tier3 changes can be made to the line profile to get you at a better ping rate.

I used to ping BBC at about 46ms and was changed to about 25-26 now after I called tier 3 a while back. Given that, it is true that Sky aren't the best for ping rates.

I know it's interleaving as opposed to fastpath, that I established early. I also considered the way they may be routing traffic. The reason I called them ignorant is because many seem to have interleaving being used and Sky seem to fail to realise that people might just notice this. They don't even give the option to remove it. They *will* lose a certain group of customers just through this alone. Even a novice can see the ping going higher by means of easy to follow colour bars for example, displayed on certain game titles.

I did request Tier 3 and they refused to put me through.

I have given up and am now changing back to Be* who *actually* listen to the customer without the customer having to run around in circles.

      Re: Sky Mid for Gaming

A gaming service does not need to be Fastpath. Interleaving with a low delay on both upstream and downstream will still provide a decent ping of around 30-40ms which is perfectly acceptable.

And as sky are not focusing on the gaming side of the market I don't think losing a few select customer is going to be an issue. Who knows they may indeed start to offer a more gaming designed package but at the moments its interleaving and fine for most.

If you have however decided its not for you and gone back to a more gaming friendly isp thats great, its your choice but if you had stuck in there and been a little more persistant you could have your issue resolved while still saving alot of money.

      Re: Sky Mid for Gaming

The fact remains that Sky will not put me through to Tier 3, nor will they accept that I have a problem with high ping times and so won't make any adjustments on their end. So who's to say when they will respond? I don't think it's worth holding my breath to be honest...
