      Do I stay or do I go ?

      Had Sky Tv and have always been very pleased. No have Sky broadband and have been testing MAX package for downloads, drop outs, gaming etc etc.

      Download speed is great no problems there, but I am getting dropouts when gaming usually every 45 mins when gaming and a higher ping than with my existing providers, pipex, tiscali etc etc

      Play Counterstrike Source and use Ventrilo at the same time and now ventrilo is droping every 15 mins. Appears to be very unstable.

      Will all of this get any better or shall I just decide to admit that Sky is just not for me and leave within the 8 day window.

      honest answers appreciated.

      Re: Do I stay or do I go ?

      You could post your detailed stats using the following proceedure and post them to see if we can see anything.

      Go to the utility web site:Sky Netgear DG834GT utility version 0.4 Click the “Get” detailed modem stats button and click “OK”.
      Enter the router login user name and password.
      At the next screen, click the back button on your browser.
      Click the “Download” netgear.cfg button.
      What you do next depends on your operating system. On Windows XP, click the “Save” button to save the file to your hard disk. (If you click “Open”, you may find that the file association is one that doesn’t handle carriage returns the same way as the router, hence the reason for saying “Save”.)
      Open the file in WordPad (not notepad).

      Re: Do I stay or do I go ?

      You have a conciderable amount of CRC errors which is the most like cause of your problem. You need to try plugging your router into the test socket behind the face plate of the master socket if you have an NTE5, this will disconnect any extension wiring isolating fault to either internal wiring or BT line.
      Rule of thumb CRC errors should not exceed 0.1% of SF transmitted so :
      For 56008 SF your CRC errors should not exceed 56. Pasted from your stats below you will see yours are somewhat higher!! Classic sign of wiring issues.

      SF = 56008
      CRC = 1926
      LOS = 383
      LOF = 0
      ES = 421

      BTW if your previous suppliers were running at slower connection speeds that may be why problem didn't occur B4.

      I have checked the master socket and I do not have a NTE5 style Master BT Line Box. I also do not have any extensions on there either. My previous ISP was running at 2 MB so this might explain things.

      What would you suggest i do ? Ask Sky to Cap Download speed to 8 MB as I don't really need 11 ? Might it be a BT wiring issue then ?

      Re: Do I stay or do I go ?

      Looked a bit closer and had another thought about this one.

      In the master socket I have line to surge protector. From Surge protecter It goes to adsl Filter and then splits with RJ45 going to router and telephone line going to spliter with the phone on one and then extension cable going through to lounge where sky is. This is a cheaper extension cable and therefore may be the cause of the fault I think now.

      Will the high CRC's be caused internally even though they are after the ADSL filter due to surge protector and extension lead? If so then i will try later and report back.

      Re: Do I stay or do I go ?

      Yes they will unfortunately, best thing to do is take the face plate off and connect router to the test socket with nothing else connected and run for a few hours just to prove the point, then start reconnecting things one at a time to see what causes the errors to come back. If this is the only socket you are using then make sure only 2 wires are connected to the back of it from the incoming BT line. A - B. Its a bit of trial and error I'm affraid.
      I had the same problem, my BT 2mb connection was fine so naturally I blamed Sky!! It was only when I found this forum and started doing some investigation I found it was the wiring. Mine has been perfect for 5 months now
