"Freesat From Sky" and pairing viewing card

Hi, I receive "Freesat from Sky" and am about to switch my Sky box to a different one. Do I need to pair my viewing card to the new box? How do I do that?

Are you getting another Sky box to view Freesat? If you are then just put your card in and it should pair. Freesat isn't supplied by Sky although you can view it on a Sky box. I have a Samsung and a Bush Freesat boxes and they don't need cards.

yes, i'm getting another sky box. I believe that some channels like Sony Channel 157, London Live 117, Sony Movie Channel 323, require a Sky viewing card. You don't think it needs to be paired?

Try it out, if you get a message saying incorrect viewing card then it will need pairing which could be an issue! When I log into my Mums account on line there used to be an option to pair card but now she has cancelled her subscription that option has disappeared, whether Sky will pair a card if your not subscribing I don't know.

The card should successfully initialise in the new box. If it is a true Freesat from Sky viewing card as opposed to a cancelled subscription then Sky TV technical department will help you if you are having problems.

Yikes. It's a cancelled subscription. Why would that make a difference?

Re: "Freesat From Sky" and pairing viewing card

Sky TV technical have previously refused to reset the PIN on the viewing card of a cancelled subscription. They said that this would not have been a problem if the caller had paid 25 and purchased a Freesat from Sky viewing card. The same is true about a change of address to obtain the correct channels where there are regional variations (eg. channel 117 is unavailable at my location). I assume that the same will apply if the card will not initialise in a different set top box.

To be honest we are all making assumptions. It worked for me but that was years ago. I have since ditched my Sky box and, as I have said, I now use a Bush and a Samsung Freesat boxes. It would be best if you rang Sky and asked them. I have to say, though, good luck with that.

Re: "Freesat From Sky" and pairing viewing card

If it does not pair, login to the mysky account you may still have, that works with freesat from Sky.
If not, call the number here if it does not pair.
The T&Cs do not say much about changing boxes.
If it does not pair, you will still be able to pay the 25 for a new 'Freesat from sky' card, as long as you have a qualifying sky box.

Re: "Freesat From Sky" and pairing viewing card

Tried the new box: the only channels that require a paired card seem to be London Live 117 and Sky News HD 516. I asked Sky to pair my card, they tried sending a signal, it didn't work. A new card for 25 is the only choice. Or subscribe to sky again, lol.

I asked if a new card would fix another annoying problem: the box came pin-protected and I don't know the pin. They had no idea.
