      20 Yrs and going!!

Well after being with sky tv, for over 20 years, as a household we have due to financial reasons decided to cancel tv subs., rang today got through to a decent advisor, to discuss this, best sky could offer me was cancel F1 channel, drop hd subs to 5 per month, giving me a saving of approx. 5 per month, so much for customer retention!!!.
Anyway ive been looking at Freesat as an alternative and buying Humax box with freetime, dont want sky freesat as i apparently have to pay 10 month!! for the privelege

You will continue to receive the freeview channels after your subscription ends but you will loss the record facility.

I have Freesat Freetime box and honestly, apart from the lack of sky channels (obviously) and a long startup animation boot thingy it is fantastic. Does all the stuff the sky box does, I think I prefer Sky's UI but that might be habit. Check carefully about the differences in channels between freesat and freeview, I personally miss Dave and have to watch via internet now.

It gets to the point of 'why have satellite at all' when recent TV's offer a very similar line up of channels via Freeview HD plus masses of on-line content. You can also pick up a cheap 2nd user TalkTalk YouView PVR box for well under 50 which will allow you to record any of the terrestrial channels (you don't need to be with TT unless you want TT TV). This will perform like a Sky box in that it is twin tuner so records 2 whilst watching a third. If you have a slightly older TV then maybe you would be better putting the 200+ cost for a Freesat PVR into a new TV.

Just a quick update, phone call from Sky last night, with an improved offer which i have taken up for the next 12 months, if i was to leave sky, i would only have phone line and fibre bband, now with new offer im paying less per month and keeping current tv package, hd, but ditching multiroom,
