Satellite dispute and problems with Eutelsat 28

No obvious place for this post so I've put it here.

The two satellite operators at 28 degrees seem to be about to lock horns and it may seriously disrupt Sky and Freesat. Full information is at Satellite dispute could be . Basically the history of rights to these satellite positions has changed hands over the years and now both operators believe they own the rights to all the frequencies and plan to broadcast on them at the same time. This of course will wreck reception in the UK. Lets hope they sort it out.

As a side issue Eutelsat's Eurobird1 (also known as Eutelsat28) seems to be dying fast and people in the UK might loose the channels they broadcast until a replacement arrives (real soon now). That's when the fun will start as the replacement satellite will use the same frequencies as Astra28.

      Lets see what happens.

Thanks for this Dave. Hopefully the issue will be resolved before things get messy up there.

In the meantime Astra 1N will be replaced by Astra 2F and all frequencies from Astra 1N are expected to be transfered to Astra 2F between 23-26 November, 2012.

If you are viewing or listening outside the UK, now is not the time to invest in any new equipment. The BBC/ITV currently uses the UK spotbeams on the Astra 1N satellite, this is soon to be replaced by Astra 2F. The two satellites are very similar, though the UK spotbeam on Astra 2F may differ from that of Astra 1N. Only time will tell.

There has been a lot of noise over some of the ITV HD regions not working recently. They have changed their frequency range or broadcast coding or something. Will this be related do you think?

ITV have been testing some ITV HD Regions and haven't offered a full service on these test transmissions. The last reported frequency in late October by kingofsat showed ITV regions at 10.994H broadcasting FTA - Meridian N, Anglia W, Yorkshire E, and Central SW. Specifically ITV Anglia West was then testing which is why it specifically was coming and going.
