Which MAC for Extracting Username and Password?
My Sky router (Sagem) has packed in and I simply don't think I should have to pay Sky for another one when I've got perfectly good hardware that can do the job already.
So, I've used the page at Sky Broadband Password Calculator - pH-Mb to get my Sky ADSL username and password. However, when I put that into my other router's setup, i get a "CHAP authentication failed" message when I connect.
I can see that the modem is connected and is even showing the Up and Down connection speeds, so I think I'm nearly there. I've double-checked I've entered the correct username and password produced by the page above.
On that page, I entered the MAC on the sticker on the bottom of my Sky router, but i notice the page says to use the LAN MAC, not the WAN one. Is that the right one? The sky router isn't letting me access it so I can't get into its admin pages to see the settings there.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

Re: Which MAC for Extracting Username and Password?
On my router the mac on the sticker matches the LAN mac address. Chap authentication failed just means the username and password are wrong, double check that you have typed in the mac address and default wireless key correctly (they need to be exact). Also note that this is the wireless key written on the base of the router not any key you may have changed it to.

Re: Which MAC for Extracting Username and Password?
Thanks for your reply mrmt32. I've got the Sagem 2504 and the page I linked to above only asks for the MAC address and then gives the username and password. It doesn't ask for the wireless key and that field is blank after pressing the "Calculate" button. Am I missing something here?
I've doubled checked i'm entering the password correctly but still getting the same authentication failure.
Does that password extractor page work for anyone else with the Sagem 2504?

Re: Which MAC for Extracting Username and Password?
When you select the sagem option in the router type drop down a wifi key box should appear. Do you have any javascript blockers enabled?

Re: Which MAC for Extracting Username and Password?
Hmmm, its definitely not appearing for me. I did have an ad-blocker installed in Firefox but I've disabled that. I've also tried Safari and Chrome - all those on a Mac. I've also tried IE and Firefox in a VMWare image - still nothing. I can see the Javascript in the page source too, so I just can't fathom out why the field is not appearing for me.

Re: Which MAC for Extracting Username and Password?
How odd, it seems to work fine for me in firefox, chrome and IE. I can calculate the password for you if your want if you can PM me your mac address and wifi key.

Re: Which MAC for Extracting Username and Password?
Thanks, though I finally got it working. I've been accessing the web via a tethered mobile phone with a very poor 3G connection so I think I wasn't giving the JavaScript time to load before I was changing the dropdown, so the wireless key form field was not appearing.
I've got the password now and can now connect again using a NetGear router.
Thanks for your help.
