password generator

Ive extracted my username and password from my sagem router using the password generator and tried using them in my old netgear dg834g router that i have but cant get it to connect. I got the router from my mum and i think she got it from aol.
Ive copied and pasted my mac address and network key from the router page and also copied and pasted the username and password into the netgear router, ive also reset the router to its factory settings, but i cant get it to work.
I am using the right mac address
the routers syncing but i cant connect to the internet.

What am i doing wrong?

Re: password generator

Have you set the correct CHAP authentication?

Re: password generator

I'm guessing you mean ADSL settings:

Encapsulation: PPPoA
VPI/VCI: 0/38
Multiplexing: VC

Just checking - you've used the Sagem LAN MAC address not the ADSL MAC address (or the DG834G LAN address)? Also, you have used the default WPA network key (on the underside sticker) not one you've subsequently set?

If you have, then copied and pasted into the tool then you have the right username and password which will give the correct authentication. Together with the ADSL settings above, that's all you need.

What firmware is on the DG834G? If it is an AOL firmware, that could be the problem.

Re: password generator

Well for some reason I've got it working, I dont think that I done anything differntely, but its now working.
Whats the chances of sky finding out that I'm not using there router?
Is it possible to change the lan mac of the netgear router?
Ive emailed them asking for the netgear router as the sagems wireless is poor and thats why I wanted to use my netgear as I had no problems with that.

Re: password generator

Sky can work out what router you are using, I have not heard of anyone disconnected for it though.

If you have the generic Netgear firmware then you'll find the option to change the MAC in the admin pages. However, even if you change it to the Sagem MAC, Sky will still be able to tell that you are not using the supplied router.

Although that is against the T&C's, as Googleme says, Sky have never taken any action (why would they?) and I'd guess that there are a few thousand Sky customers using their own router now that the means to get the username and password is so widely known and publicised.
