Restoring the Sagem router after it's been flashed
I've managed to get this working now.
The standard SkyUser disclaimer on router reflashing…
SkyUser make this information available in the interests of our members. Please do not upgrade your FW unless you fully understand the risks that it could go wrong and render your router useless. Please remember also, that it is against the Terms and Conditions of Sky Broadband. You also run a high risk of having your Broadband Connection suspended as well as receiving no Technical Support.
But presumably you're reading this because you've already decided to ignore the warnings and now want to put your Sagem router back the way it was. So without further ado, here are the instructions for restoring your Sagem router back to the way it was when it was delivered.
- Download these two flash image files…
- Ensure that you are connected to the router through Ethernet (wired networking). It's also a good idea that you have just the router and your PC on the network. It'll make things easier if you are using a fixed IP address for your PC - go to Network Connections and in the TCP/IP properties switch from "Obtain an IP address automatically" to "Use the following IP address" and enter a suitable IP address such as 192.168.0.2 with a netmask of 255.255.255.0. If you are using Windows Vista, make sure you have the telnet client enabled because you'll need it later.
- Navigate to the router at http://192.168.0.1/ using the username admin and the password sky.
- Select the Maintenance->Router Upgrade option. Browse to the F@ST2404 firmware image you downloaded in step 1 and then click on UPLOAD. Once the router has uploaded the new firmware, flashed it and rebooted, you should see just one light on the router - the Ethernet port light for your PC connection.
- Change your PC's IP address to 192.168.1.2 and navigate to http://192.168.1.1/. You should see a rather sparse web page that has fields for Software File Name and MAC Base Address. Enter your router's MAC address in the appropriate box, then click on Save/Apply followed by Save/Reboot.
- Once the router has rebooted, navigate to http://192.168.1.1/ with the username admin and password admin - note the changed password. You should see the standard Sagem F@ST2404 user interface.
- Click on Management then Update Software. Browse to the 1.5SKY-mod.img that you downloaded in step 1 and click on the Update Software button.
- Once the router has rebooted, you'll probably see an error page in your browser. Don't worry about that, and go to http://192.168.1.1/ with the username admin and password admin. The router will be now back in its Sky Broadband "skin".
- In Windows, click on Start->Run and enter the command
and in the telnet window, login using admin and admin. You should see a configuration menu with 14 items. At the -> prompt, type the command
and then type
where SSID is the default SSID assigned to the router and KEY is the default WPA network key. The SSID is always SKY followed by 5 digits, and the WPA network key is always eight uppercase letters. You can get these details from the label on the bottom of the router. Note that you have to enter the default SSID and WPA key even if you have changed them. So for example, if your router's default SSID is SKY12345 and its default WPA key is ZYXWABCD, you would type the following command…
- restore-cfg SKY12345 ZYXWABCD
When you have done that, type reboot to reboot the router.
- Change your PC's IP address back to 192.168.0.2 - you can do this while the router is rebooting. Once the router has rebooted, navigate to http://192.168.0.1/ and login with the username admin and password sky - note how the details have reverted to their Sky defaults.
- At this point, the router will appear to work normally. However, the router will still believe itself to be F@ST2404 router and not a F@ST2504. This isn't a problem most of the time, but if Sky release a firmware update for the F@ST2504, the router will download it, but fail to install it. But this can be fixed. Select the Maintenance->Router Upgrade option, and browse to the 1.5SKY-mod.img image you downloaded in step 1. Yes, we're going to flash the router with the same firmware it already has! Click on the UPDATE button.
- Once the router has rebooted it will need to have its MAC address set again. But this time, it's not done through the web interface, you have to telnet to the router to do it. Click on Start->Run and enter the command
In the telnet window, you'll now see that it says, "FAST2504 ADSL Router (Software Version:1.5Sky)" so the router is finally in the right state - it's recongises itself as a F@ST2504 router and it's running the 1.5Sky firmware. So now all that needs to be done is to see the MAC address again. In the telnet window, login using admin and sky. At the -> prompt, type the command
and then at the # prompt, type
where MAC is your router's LAN MAC address, as printed on the label on the bottom of your router. It doesn't matter if you use upper or lower-case letters, nor does it matter if you do or don't include the colons. But however you write the MAC address you absolutely must get the MAC address right. No, seriously, I'm not kidding. I have borked 3 Sagem routers as a result of setting the MAC address wrong.
The final step is to type reboot to reboot the router.
And that's it. When your router reboots it will be almost indistinguishable from the state that it was delivered in. There are only two differences: the Firmware Version number on the router status page is reported as 1.5Sky*, and telnet is enabled, which allows you the get access to more advanced features, such as setting DNS server entries, and getting more details statistics.

Re: Restoring the Sagem router after it's been flashed
worked a treat, reflashed, then upgraded to Software Version: 3.24a4, however, can't get my web server to work now as every time i try to bring up my site the router asks me to log on as if i wanted to remotely configure it. How do i switch the remote config facility off so when my ip is called in firefox the web server is picked up?
thanx
Albert

Re: Restoring the Sagem router after it's been flashed
Thanks for that I have just flashed it with the Normal Sagem Firmware, I was just having a look at whether it was possible to restore it again.
Anyway I made some mirrors of the Fimware Images:
Original Sagem F@st 2404 3.18a4
RapidShare: Easy Filehosting
I also found a newer version of the Sagem Firmware, it has a newer Driver in this firmware.
Latest Sagem F@st 2404 3.24a4
RapidShare: Easy Filehosting
Modified Version of the Sky Firmware as Provided by James67 on Rapidshare
RapidShare: Easy Filehosting
Another thing I picked up on my mission to reflash, I found the Manual for the Sagem 2404, which you may need if you have flashed the router to the Sagem Version.

Re: Restoring the Sagem router after it's been flashed
Hi All,
My contract with sky broadband has finished, but I want to use the F@st 2504 v2 wireless router with Talktalk.
I believe the way to do this is flash the latest Sagem F@ST2404 firmware
by following steps 1 - 6 on this page
All I need to do is enter my internet details from talktalk right?
One of the steps is to change 'my computers ip address'
Firstly how do I change a private address?
Secondly, do I not have to change the IP address back?
Thank you in advance for any help!

Re: Restoring the Sagem router after it's been flashed
To give your PC a fixed address go to the Control Panel, Network Connections, right click your adapter icon and select Properties, highlight Inernet Protocol, TCP/IP press the Properties button. In the TCP/IP properties switch from "Obtain an IP address automatically" to "Use the following IP address" and enter 192.168.0.2 with a netmask of 255.255.255.0 gateway 192.168.0.1. In No 5 change the address to 192.168.1.2, 255.255.255.0 with gateway 182.168.1.1.
When you have finished the flash you can change back to 'Obtain an IP Automatically'.
