Re: Getting your V1 and V2 router passwords - the safe way

Just joined sky user and James's user name and password tool is clever. Because my dg934gt will not handle linux and will not keep a wep key and has never transmitted via wireless although I get an excellent connection on the laptops wireless network connection pane. I plugged my linksys wrt54g wireless router into the 1st ethernet output and set that up to handle my lan. This being an old router that was used on my ntl cable broadband, and does all that the netgear doesn't. There doesn't seem any reason why sky won't give the pppoe name and password provided the customer knows there is no support for a non sky supplied modem and sky have charged for and supplied the netgear junk other than bloody mindedness.

Re: Getting your V1 and V2 router passwords - the safe way

James, you're the man. I now have my sky username and password and it works on my old Netgear Rangemax DG834PN as well as my Sky Netgear DG934G. I'll stick with the Sky one to be safe but it's good to know I have a backup if Sky's turns out to be crap. It works fine for now though and gives me 54Mbps wireless compared to 48 with my DG834PN. My external hardrive works in Sky's router's LAN port as well so I'm happy for now.

Does anyone know which of my two models is the superior and for what reasons? They've both been pretty good but I'd like to know whether it's worth trying to change the MAC address on my old one to hide it from Sky if I keep on using it.

Cheers

Sly

Thanks i now have my 2wire 2700 up and running with its complicated vpn wireless and client specific settings. all of whitch would of been a nightmare to set up on this new p.o.s netgear box that sky sent. Who the hell do they think they are telling people they cant yous there own adsl hardware to connect. Ib been with multiple providers since late 2003 and i have never come across something as disguesting as this. i use my own hardware and allways have. How dare you sky.

It does not matter how much you rant, the T & Cs state you must use the router supplied. Sky will be quite within their rights to cease your service for breaking them, if they so wish. The Sky service is sold specifically for domestic use and the routers the supply meet this need. If you need a business class router, maybe you should have gone to an ISP who caters for business needs.

I also disagree with Sky's router policy but see no point in ranting about it.
