I can answer that for you Dave, its the original one printed on the router label, not your own one.

Re: Getting your V2 router password - the safe way

Thanks James for the response a bit back in the thread...

If I flashed an ebay bought Sagem with the base Sagem build would it still suffer from some of the known issues with that router (VPN, remote management and UPnP problems maybe?!?)... if so then presumably the Netgears available can also be flashed with base Netgear firmware...

Do I take it that the Sagem's are considered better pieces of hardware only let down by a poor/limited Sky firmware???

Re: Getting your V2 router password - the safe way

You can certainly flash a Sky Sagem router with the standard F@ST2404 firmware, just as you can put the standard Netgear DG834GT firmware on a Sky V1 router (the white one).

The new Sky Netgear router, the DG934G, doesn't have a equivalent non-Sky counterpart, so the only firmware available for it is the Sky one. I did make a rather half-hearted attempt to create a non-Sky flash image for it, but I ran into a few problems. I suspect that although the router is loosely based on the DG834G, it seems to have enough differences to make creating customised firmware for it rather difficult.

When it comes to one router being better than another, well, 95% of routers sold are simply slight variants of the basic software kits that the chip manufacturers give away to people building routers with their chips in. The main differences tend to be superficial - things like the web interface to the router.

Personally, I prefer the Sagem F@ST2404 router to the Netgear DG834GT, but it's really only for rather minor issues.

Re: Getting your V2 router password - the safe way

i have just signed upto sky from orange and am waiting for my router. not suer which one i will get but i am hving problems with my current 1 week old d link dsl 2740b on the orange network like i am unable to connect to the majority of sites like i was used to last week. i have passed my mac to sky and am in the process of switching. my pc is running correctly as both my pcs and laptop are having the same problem. i can log onto the internet via my works laptop and go to our server and get full internet no probs. orange seem to be dragging there heels in sorting out the issue but as they no doubt know sky have the mac im not holding my breath fo a resoloution.

the reason for the post is that i would like to use my d link which connects at 300 kbps to my laptop and upsatirs pc but it seems i will have to use the sky router. if i get the settings for my d link will it work as well as the sky one the send me. will i aslo be able to use media player via my xbox which the d link allows so i cn stream films on my pc to my tv in the front room??

what type are sky sending out is it the sagem or netgear??

many thanks for you help

Daz

Sky at the moment are sending out both types, once you have the credentials you should be able to use your own router. However it is at your own risk.

Why not try using the Sky router and see how you get on first?

Re: Getting your V2 router password - the safe way

On the Sagem, did you try changing the channel number for the wireless? Mine was poor on switch on but changing this gave me an excellent signal.
