well all i did was download it from netgear and package it up so its easier for everyone.
you can download the file from netgear and use that one as its the same.
also an update, i flashed back to sky firmware, but i was unable to log back into the router, it wouldnt accept admin/sky or admin/admin so im not too sure what has happened there, is anyone else able to confirm this?
im flashing back to netgear firmware and ill update soon.
edit: looks like ive done something wrong! i cant log back into the router, i would advise people once you have flashed to the netgear firmware dont flash back yet. i cant seem to find out where my problem has come from. anyone know how i can reset the router password.
edit 2: logged back in using admin/password, looks like i held the reset button for too long and it reset to default or something. also please nobody flash back to the sky firmware if you havnt backed up your settings!!!

Try admin/password

I flashed back to the Sky firmware and couldn't log in either, to fix it though I tried various things but i think once you flash back, if you press the reset button it should work. Can't say for definite if this is what fixes it but I managed to flash back to the Sky Firmware!

when i flashed back to skyfw i couldnt login so i flashed back to netgear, then logged in with admin/password and found all my settings were gone,
i uploaded the settings back onto it, then flashed back to sky and it worked fine.
then i flashed back to netgear and it still works fine.

I'm currently on the netgear and to be honest I think I'll leave it at netgear now. I also thought I'd let everyone know that I'm now connected to Tiscali through Sky's router! I hope nobody from Sky reads this incase this is illegal or something.

As requested here is an idiots guide. Same disclaimer applies as in the OP.
Thanks to vishal and markbloke coming up with the ideas.
Recovery Utility: http://kbserver.netgear.com/release_notes/d102417.asp
Firmware (1.02.04): http://kbserver.netgear.com/release_notes/D102796.asp
Download the recovery utility and unzip it.
Download the latest firmware and save it to the same directory as the extracted Recovery Utility.
It should look like this (it is very important that the firmware is saved here):

Have just one PC connected via a LAN cable.
Logon to your router and click on Backup Settings
Save the netgear.cfg file and keep it safe:

Power down the router.
Using a pen or something small keep the reset button on the back pressed whilst turning on the router.
I held it down for about 3-4 seconds. Holding it down too long might erase your settings.
You will now see the Power and Test light flash in an alternating way:

Browse to the DG834 Recovery Utility directory and run RmDrv.exe
Then run UpgradeWizard.exe
Click next

Select your network card (thats connected to the router)

If sucessful a device (and only one) will be listed here, select and click next:

It will start the upgrade process and will tell you once complete.
Logon to your router and you will notice some new options, click on Basic Settings
You will see your username but your password is masked:

To get your password click Backup Settings and save the CFG file. Open the CFG file in Wordpad.
