How to obtain your username and password Netgear V2 DG934G Router

Note: DO NOT use the method described in this thread to get your username and password - a "safer" method rather than flashing the FW is now available and can be found here.

Before reading this thread Please read this first.

    With all credit to James67

This tutorial only applies to a Black Netgear V2 Sky DG934G Router

Download the unofficial updated Firmware at your own risk DG934G-1SKUKS_V2.02.34-telnet.img

And save to your desktop or a location of your choice.

Go to your browser and type in http://192.168.0.1 then using your username and password, which is usually admin and sky, log into the router.

    1. Select Router Upgrade
    2. Click Browse and then look for the file you just downloaded and select it
    3. Once selected, click on Upload
    4. Do not turn your router off or touch until it completes the process

Once this has finished and you have reconnected on your Sky Broadband connection, open a Command Prompt and type the following:

    1. Telnet 192.168.0.1 then hit enter
    2. Type cat /tmp/password.txt then hit enter

And once again, this procedure is completely untested and it may render your router useless. Do NOT do it unless you know what you're doing and are not dependent on the router. You HAVE been WARNED!

SkyUser make this information available in the interests of our members. Please do not upgrade your FW unless you fully understand the risks that it could go wrong and render your router useless. Please remember also, that it is against the Terms and Conditions of Sky Broadband. You also run a high risk of having your Broadband Connection suspended as well as receiving no Technical Support.

Well the Netgear was supposedly unhackable, so I presume won't be far off.

Re: How to obtain your username and password Netgear V2 DG934G Router

I suspect that cracking the Sagem router will be more difficult.

Netgear release a complete source code kit which allows you to make modifications to the router firmware, build an image and flash it to your router. They do this to comply with the conditions of the GNU General Public Licence (GPL).

On the other hand, I can't find anything similar for the Sagem router. It's possible - although rather unlikely - that there's no GPL code running on their router. I've read comments about Sagem suggesting that it can be quite difficult getting them to recognise their responsibilities under the GPL, so that doesn't seem too promising.

I can see your viewpoint, but this is really a lot easier to achieve than the V1 routers. IE It's exactly the same so to speak as Sky asking a user to reflash from the CD, so in theory should be less n00bs wrecking routers. Although we appreciate it is a pain in the neck for you guys.

Rumour (or PMs) tonight suggest that there is a V3 coming out in the not too distant future. Although the time period was not clarified.
