If you have only had the box for a month, call in Sky, as there could be a problem with your box. As mentioned, the recent firmware does not cause this problem.

      Re: Why not fixed yet

I have a box of approximately the same age and have suffered various issues including lockups, as described by the OP, especially when viewing recorded media.

A couple of times I have also suffered the annoying lockup which results in losing a chunk of a program being recorded while you are rebooting the box .

However I am pleased to report no further issues to date since performing a planner rebuild a few weeks ago.

I will wait and see what happens now i've done the rebuild, and await the new firmware. Thank you all for your help.

If it has been working OK for the last five months it may just be a spurious lock up, they do occur sometimes.

I haven't had this issue in a while, not since I started rebooting the box at least once a week.

Seriously, leave any computer on constantly and you will get issues even in those "really" stable windows systems.

Wish it had been working ok for the last five months, it's just I haven't bothered since it was only the remote locking up, yesterday tried to pause live tv went to do something, came back black screen hadn't recorded anything wouldn't respond to remote or buttons on box, only way to get it all back was pull the plug and reboot. When the contracts up will go back to freesat at least the equipment is reliable.

Second rule of engineering: Anything that can break will break.

(First rule: If it ain't broke, don't fix it)

Freesat STBs can and do fail. I don't have comparative stats though.

      Re: Why not fixed yet

After last time I left sky due to unreliable reception, I had a freesat receiver for three years without problems including no remote issues, been back with sky for 6 months and am getting a bit hacked off with it. Suppose could always hope they sort it in the next six months, but if they ain't sorted it in over 20 years won't hold my breath.

      Re: Why not fixed yet

This and similar problems do occur from time to time but if after clearing the deleted items folder and performing a planner rebuild the problem continues to occur I would try putting the box in "Eco" mode.

If all else fails I know it might be a lot of hassle but, while your box is still under warranty I would start calling Sky TV tech. every time it locks up. They will start by asking you to reboot the box which will appear to clear the fault. They should put a note on the account to record the outcome. On the second and subsequent calls ensure that the note includes, "This is the 2nd/3rd/Nth time I have had to call with this problem in X days. If the agent doesn't pick up on this after half a dozen calls suggest that clearly there is a problem with the Sky box and perhaps it would be best if an engineer came out to repair it.

If this hint doesn't have the desired effect be a little more insistent on the next call.
