BT Playing 'Tough Cookie To Crack' Games
Our daughter has just sussed that instead of using her mobile phone to call her friends she can use the BT phone and then not have to use any of her credit.
A quick call to BT and it transpires that I have to pay £3.15 per month to block mobile calls, (absolute daylight robbery) or;
I can pay an extra £1.85 per month excluding line rental. (I was paying £8.15 a month for anytime calls and friends and family mobile and something else)
The guy at BT offered me £10 a month instead of £8.15 and get the same as before, but free calls to mobiles, but I have to sign up for another 12 months. Therefore the £1.85 is cheaper than paying £3.15 a month to block outgoing calls to mobiles. However, the line rental is due to go up to £15.45 per month soon apparently.
He said I would have to sign up for another 12 months, and I said that I didn't want to, so he said I will put you through to Cancellations as they have more clout.
Cancellations can do nothing, they cannot even match the deal that he offered.
Rang back to try and speak to the guy again, but absolutely impossible to do so, so do I stay or do I go?

Something for your daughter to think about...
Do you intend to get Sky Fibre when it is eventually activated in your exchange (perhaps next year)? If so, then Sky doesn't have any option like what you are asking for. It does have a system where you are notified if the spending goes over a preset limit though.
In the mean time, off to the workshop and make some new toys...

Maybe I should research and do an article on BT versus Sky and see if there really is a difference between the 2 companies and any savings that could be made?
The issue then of course you cannot have Sky Broadband or Sky Fibre unless you have Sky Line Rental.
/off to sulk as really annoyed with BT

Re: BT Playing 'Tough Cookie To Crack' Games
Sadly not.
With the Talk Unlimited package you can call Mobile phones for a little less than the normal Sky Talk package, but sadly the cheapest price is 6.12p per minute.
I avoid using my land-line to call mobiles.
A grounding and requirement for her to pay back the cost of the calls are the only realistic things that can be done at the moment. Of course the thumb screws are always another option.

Re: BT Playing 'Tough Cookie To Crack' Games
I remember us doing something similar years ago. Our kids just went and bought a cheapo phone for about 50p and plugged that in!
We never knew for months how they were doing it but, when we did find out, I bought a gadget to attach to the phone socket to stop them swapping phones anymore!Geoff, York.
Can't call me a Luddite now!

Re: BT Playing 'Tough Cookie To Crack' Games
There is one really brilliant feature available now with Sky Talk: the My Sky account.
I know, I know, it has been there for some time. It is possible though to sign in to it and check your itemised telephone bill. It is used to be possible to download it, but you can always copy and paste it into Excel, or some other spreadsheet.
From there it is very easy to find out the dates and times of when specific telephone numbers were called and check them out.
Since this information is available for 12 months, it can be worrying once your teenagers find out about backdating charges to their pocket money.

Re: BT Playing 'Tough Cookie To Crack' Games
Well Cancellations told me that they would get the guy I spoke to to ring me back within 24 hours to confirm that we could get that deal, and guess what, no phone call. How did I know that was going to happen?
