- It’s embarrassing enough for Olympics organisers that The Who’s famed former drummer Keith Moon didn't accept their invitation to play at the Games. Even worse is that the regrets had to come from the band’s manager. (Because, you know, Moon has been dead for 34 years.)

Re: Specsavers Advert
I wonder what is going to happen if Team GB does not win as many medals as in China. The pundits are on about what a great lift it will be to the country when we get a big medal count, they don't mention what will happen if the team is a failure. Will we all be down in the dumps?
I am old enough to remember when the only Olympic gold we won was by a horse called Foxhunter, which became Britain's favourite animal. I don't remember the suicide rate jumping up. These were the days when the Olympics were truly amateur and winning a gold medal was only for the honour, not to turn the holder into a potential millionaire.
I also thought the opening was good, but I think it would have been lost on the rest of the world. I don't really think they would understand what it was all about.

I thought it was brilliant, but I totally agree, no one apart from the UK would get what it was about.I also thought the opening was good, but I think it would have been lost on the rest of the world. I don't really think they would understand what it was all about.

It makes you wonder what they will have lined up for the closing ceremony.

Re: Specsavers Advert
From the 2008 Olympics:
China: 51 Gold, 21 Silver, 28 Bronze
GB: 19 Gold, 13 Silver, 15 Bronze
Bottom line, we have no chance of getting as many as China, USA or Russia. For me getting just one more medal than 2008 means a successful but would be disappointed if it was a bit more than that.
