BBC News - O2 mobile users suffer network problems across UK

Thousands of O2 mobile subscribers have lost voice and data services across the UK due to a problem with the network.
The firm said that it had begun experiencing issues "at lunchtime" but was unable to explain the cause.

GiffGaff and Tesco Mobile customers - who also make use of O2's masts - have also been affected.

O2 said the problem is not based on geography. Some subscribers still have connections at the same location as others who do not.

A statement on the firm's website said: "Those customers affected will have difficulty making or receiving calls, sending texts or using data. Our engineers are dealing with the problem as a priority and we hope to restore full service as soon as possible."

Apparently the O2 problem is their system isn't recognising many handsets/SIM's. Odd situations like 2 O2 customers in the same room with one getting full bars strength and service whilst the other having no connection whatever. They don't seem to know what's causing the problem! Apparently you can still register new SIM's and they work OK.

i was through Tesco mobile which half uses the o2 network and it was fine when i turned it on this morning though i don't use 3g just wifi

Maybe when you tried it it was using the half of the network that isnt O2.

Technology as trying to watch a picture in 3D on a non 3D TV? Don't know how I managed when there were no holes in the wall
