      XH558 Engine Failure

Went to watch XH558 take off to do a practice display earler and 2 of the Olympus engines went bang i was 1.8 miles down the runway so the heat haze and distance obviously have an adverse effect on the photos but what a shame, lets hope she can be fixed and flying again real soon

Chase it up. You should be able to get some money for it since the image is your copyright.

It it was a newspaper then you ma need to take it up through the PCC is they refuse to pay.

      Press Complaints!

You have a legal expectation to receive some payment.

I knew someone whose photos were sent to a firm for consideration in a campaign. The person sent a batch off and the used a couple, but never returned the rest. They paid for the ones they used. A year or so later the firm used another and didn't pay for it.

After a heated phone call, they coughed up the money fairly quickly though.

The newspapers have the same legal duty to pay for your picture if they have used it and I am sure that you would win, whether or not it was posted on the Internet. You still own the copyright of it.

Is that the same one that flew over Silverstone this weekend?

Yes mate indeed it was, i went on the hanger tour for farthers day Avro Vulcan XH558 Hanger Tour - a set on Flickr and the new engines were in then, just not connected. One of them is brand new (albeit 30 years old) and the other one has 64 hours flying time on it but that is that, there is no more engines, RR have 2 but they are not in the best of condition so they are not certified air worthy.

This is her landing at Doncaster the other month if anyone wants to go get a close look at her, you now know what she looks like coming in.

      Re: XH558 Engine Failure

A few years ago I had the pleasure of seeing one of these wonderful craft close up at the East Fortune Airfield which houses our National Museum of Flight. This is a couple of pics I took on the day.

This was one of the craft which was used to liberate the Falklands and was seized by the Brazilians on the way home.

Anyone in Scotland who has not visited this national treasure should do so. There is a very large collection of aircraft on display, including Concord. National Museum of Flight
