Just watched the front page review and the Daily Mirror is the only one running this 'claim'.

So how do they know this. Either it's tabloid sensationalism and just punting at a possible story or have they been hacking into the phone's of NOTW to find out this info.

Bottom line is how would the Mirror know this by using legitimate techniques. As I say, they are all as bad as each other and only our own human nature need to read scandle keeps them going.

On Twitter it says, a source has informed them. Nothing else, I suppose we need to wait until it is published online or tomorrow.

A source said: “This investigator is used by a lot of journalists in America and he recently told me that he was asked to hack into the 9/11 victims’ private phone data. He said that the journalists asked him to access records showing the calls that had been made to and from the mobile phones belonging to the victims and their *relatives.

Currently these newspapers are using techniques that MI5, MI6, the CIA and other intellegence agencies have been using for a while including survellence techniques on royals and police.

What makes me wonder if instead of running a story to sell some more newspapers that did they uncover stuff that was more valuable to sell to the Russians or other countries?

      You don't know these days........

It would certainly make a good story for a TV show, Spooks with journalists.

      Re: Phone Hacking & Sky

However it came about, the techniques are illegal in this country.

In one interview it was mentioned that the same techniques has been used by other companies who were researching the background of an individual for financial reasons.

What has been mentioned to me in the past, and I don't have the knowledge to back this up, is that when the specifications of encryption for GSM were drawn up, they were deliberately set at a level that the European security agencies could intercept live calls.

With the improvements in electronics since, it is now considerably easier for anyone to walk into a local electronics shop and purchase the equipment to do this if they know what they are doing.

Personally if I were in a position where my phone messages were being intercepted, I would be inclined to arrange for a highly news worthy fake message to be left, so that a paper could then print a story that only had one source and then I could totally discredit them publicly.
