I have no sympathy for the Murdochs, but I have for the several hundred employees who had no part in the allegations being made. It is a great pity that their livelihoods are being put in jeopardy due to the actions of a few individuals several years ago.
Do you think those employees can make the step up to The Sun?

PS Sun On Sunday sounds a bif naff, how's about Sun Day?

The Sun staff were told some weeks ago to prepare for going 7 days. Some may be absorbed, but the Sun already has a large staff.

They would no doubt have preferred The Sunday Sun, but that name is already taken. A bit like the Mail, which had to use the 'on Sunday' title when it went 7 day, as the Sunday Mail was a well established Scottish paper.

Ofcom | Statement on Fit and Proper

In the light of the current public debate about phone hacking and other allegations, Ofcom confirms that it has a duty to be satisfied on an ongoing basis that the holder of a broadcasting licence is ‘fit and proper’.

It is clearly not for Ofcom to investigate matters which properly lie in the hands of the police and the courts, however we are closely monitoring the situation and in particular the investigations by the relevant authorities into the alleged unlawful activities.
Phone hack detectives raid Daily Star offices - Channel 4 News

Police investigating allegations of phone hacking by tabloid journalists have searched the offices of the Daily Star.

Investigations into hacking have so far centred on the News of the World newspaper, owned by tycoon Rupert Murdoch's News Corp.

The raid on the offices of the Star, owned by businessman Richard Desmond, marks the first time the investigation into allegations of mobile phone voicemail hacking has moved beyond the News of the World...

      Re: Phone Hacking & Sky

It does add a lot of commentary to the current events.

I have noticed in the past the Sky News has been reluctant to comment on stories that everyone else has been discussing when it was they who were in the spotlight. I have noticed that they didn't even carry the story.

For me this shows that they are not broadcasting unbiased news, something that the BBC has a proud history of. I believe that this is still reasonably true of today.

Ofcom's comments "Ofcom confirms that it has a duty to be satisfied on an ongoing basis that the holder of a broadcasting licence is ‘fit and proper’" should strike fear into the hearts of News Corporation.

With all the current issues showing how badly they have tried to cover up the telephone hacking, I suspect that they may be in for a rough ride.

I would also add that the Sun has done some nasty stories in the past. I can't go into detail here, but I know of a few specific front page stories that caused major problems for some innocent people. Whilst the stories are no longer available on-line, the damage was bad for those involved.

I won't go into all the individual newspapers, but I am sure that each is guilty of damaging many lives of those who should not have be harmed.

      Re: Phone Hacking & Sky

Absolutely. I have been a sky customer since it's inception despite Murdochs involvement. Sky operate 2.75 million fixed phone lines and 3 million broadband lines. If Murdoch ever got full control of these I would cancel immediately, and have emailed Sky already stating this. It would be a shame though after all the innovation over the last few years, and certainly not a reflection of the staff of Sky.
