* The answer must be environmentally friendly.
* My loft has enough rubbish already.
* Charity collectors say “No video tapes”.
* I cannot be bothered with selling them on ebay.
* Too late to give them as Christmas presents.Last edited by murdock; 30-12-08 at 09:31 AM. Reason: revised

Re: 100 Old VCR tapes. What to do with them?
I tried to Freecycle several blank Video Cassettes, no one wanted them. Does anyone know of a company that can recycle them?

Apart from taking them to your local recycling centre, which if like ours, will tell you to put them in the nonrecyclabe skip ? I dont know what else to suggest.

You could try putting an advert in your local shop ( should be fairly cheap ) and what ever you get for them, give it to charity.

Get in touch with your local gardeners, old video tape has loads of uses, it's very good for keeping birds off soft fruit, it blows about and scares them off.

Bury them in your garden as they take thousands of years to rot they wont do the environment any harm for a long timeOriginally Posted by murdock

Yep take them to you local allotment, leave them there with a note on.
Gardeners will use the tape.
Failing that remove the tape from the cassettes, your local council should the recycle the plastic,

Re: 100 Old VCR tapes. What to do with them?
Thanks for all the replies, especially dholdi.
The recycling center suggestion best suited my needs.
My local council said they would NOT go to landfill
and can be recycled.

I know this sounds dubious, because for small quantities
the Council Customer Care told me to put it in my
domestic waste wheelie bin, which is stuff that cannot be recycled.
Still, I will assume the Council know what they are talking about.
It's the season of good will.
