Sky Q might be about to get a HUGE new competitor with new Apple launch | Tech | Life & Style | Express.co.uk
APPLE reportedly plans new premium TV packages as it looks to take on likes of Amazon and Sky.

Watching your favourite TV shows on demand could be about to get a lot cheaper following reports of a new launch from Apple.

The iPhone maker is apparently preparing to start offering a new Apple TV service that brings a number of the most popular premium channels in one package.

This would put Apple in direct competition with other pay-TV services offered by the likes of Sky and Virgin Media in the UK.

Apple's plans were revealed by Recode, where sources claimed that the company has already spoken to severla major networks.

Apple's bundle will include premium channels such as HBO, Showtime and Starz, meaning that hit shows such as Game of Thrones and Billions would most likely be included.

The three channels are currently offered by Apple in the US, but users have to pay $15 a month for HBO, $11 a month for Showtime and $9 a month for Starz.

There's no news yet on how much Apple is planning to sell its rumoured new package for - but we could well find out more at WWDC in June.

Apple has invested heavily in Apple TV in recent months as it looks to expand its offerings alongside the iPhone and Macbook lines.

The company recently released a new TV app for iPhone, iPad and Apple TV that collects content from all your video apps, whether that's on-demand or live programs.

Apple also recenly revealed that 8,000 apps are now available on the latest generation Apple TV, as well as 2,000 games in the tvOS store.

However Apple has also previouly said it is not looking to sell traditional TV bundles, which could be good news for its potential competitors.

In the UK, Sky offers probably the most comprehensive on-demand TV service, with its new Sky Q platform leading the way.

The company recently delighted users by finally enabling a voice search functionality for the platform.

Sky Q owners can now press and hold the dedicated voice button on the side of the bluetooth Sky Q touch remote and simply say what they're looking for.
