ITV to switch off TV channels to encourage exercise after Rio 2016 Olympics

      https://recombu.com/digital/article/...-2016-olympics
The Rio 2016 Olympic Games will soon be upon us and so a major television channel has decided to encourage people to exercise in a rather novel way.

ITV will attempt to maintain the healthy vibe after the Rio 2016 Olympic Games have been and gone by switching off transmission of all seven of its channels for an hour.

The event is called 'I Am Team GB' and has the National Lottery as an official partner. It will start on August the 27th at 9:30am and run until 10:30am in the hope people get off their couches to enjoy a spot of exercise.

Those who aren't already out and about playing Pokemon Go, that is.

ITV and the National Lottery are calling the event 'the world's biggest sports day'. Presumably there is an official egg 'n' spoon race, but this is unconfirmed.

Hundreds of sporting events are said to be happening across the UK on that date so there should be plenty of ways to join in, including one at the Coronation Street filming location. An official Twitter hashtag #IAmTeamGB is being used to help strum up support.

"You don't have to be an Olympian to be part of Team GB," Olympic, World and European long jump champion Greg Rutherford said.

He added: "National Lottery players make a huge difference through the support they give athletes and on the August bank holiday weekend, there is another amazing chance to be part of it.

"There are going to be thousands of fun, free events across the country so make sure you sign up, get involved and be part of Team GB."

The Rio 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil start on the 5th of August and run until the 21st of August.
Comment: Wouldn't it be easier to simply change channel?

The day I'm watching ITV at 9:30 am will be the day I start at the funny farm.

Don't worry Felix, I'm sure that they'll provide a lovely soft chair to sit on too .

Of course the other thing to take into account with this article is that ITV doesn't have the rights to show the Olympics. Once more it's the BBC.

So not only won't anyone interested in the Olympics be tuned to ITV in the first place, they'll already be watching another channel.

I'm sure that there will be a few people that take note of what ITV are doing, but in all fairness it's kind of hollow.

I want a comfy chair under a shady tree with the occasional cool drink.

Actually I must be there already; I do that now!
