I thought that I was being very constrained

However it is worth pointing out that channels such as Dave, Watch and Gold mostly show repeats all the time. They have done a few new series based upon the old ones and they were very popular.

The BBC resurrected Dr Who and this has become very popular once more.

Maybe Scubbie, but Dr Who doesn't rely on the original actor (act of genius). As good as David Jason has been over the years in various stuff there is no point to making this without Ronnie. As for the original shows being popular, then yes I agree, but thats a reflection on the reality tripe/poor quality they are flooding us with now. They are taking the Hollywood route ATM it's all remakes and little to no innovation or creation. Oh and I'm sure I heard theres going to be another Fools and Horses too (but I might have dreamed that)

Re: Still Open All Hours commissioned for full series

There are a variety of British shows which had to be remade for the US market.

The Office and Being Human both come to mind. Both started off using the original script, but based in the US rather than the UK.

Whilst they might have been popular over there, the US flavour never hit it big over hear.

I think it is very good. Unbelievably they have slotted right into where they left off. It's almost like they never left off. Taking into account the inevitable ageing I think it is quite remarkable.

As for open all hours, well I never enjoyed it first time around. Far from being amusing I found it quite depressing.

The remake had the same effect and I suspect it will be a colossal turkey, as was rock and chips. I am sure any remake of Fools and Horses will share the same fate.
