I want to extend this cable

Hi guys,I need to replace the telephone cable that goes from master socket into the back of the SR102 ROUTER as it's not long enough to put router where I want to (approx 8ft further from master socket) I have fibre broadband and the other connections can plug into nearby sockets but the actual phone cable into router is not long enough to be able to move the router...if it is possible can I get a longer cable and what is it called ? and will it cause any problems ? Many thanks in advance.

If you are connecting to an Openreach socket, which you should be, and not using an inline filter, then you can use a Cat 5 style connection and it's probably easiest to get one of these.

The cables in the link look nothing like the cable I want to replace for a longer one (see pics).. the cable I want to change for a longer one is the one coming directly from the master socket and into the top of the router.I want to extend this cable-20170930_214138.jpgI want to extend this cable-20170930_214212.jpg

Re: I want to extend this cable

Yes, you'll find you can use a cat5 extension cable, it's not a replacement, it's just a cat 5 male to female, you plug the mail end into the socket and your existing cable into the female end.

You can also buy a longer version of what you have, this for example, https://www.amazon.co.uk/Alida-Syste...ds=modem+cable

However, you are less likely to pick up noise with a cat 5 extension.

      They will both work.

Flat cable is pants for BB, use a decent quality twisted pair cable :-
