      10 core cable

      Hi
I have just moved into a older house that has 10 core cable coming up from the ground and that is it apart from a hole in wall where a master socket may have been. There seems to be 5 white wires along with 5 other colours.

      No internal wiring at all.

I am struggling to find out how to connect a new master socket and if someone could help with the wiring what is a suitable master socket.

I would not need any extension telephone sockets. The broadband would be home plugs and WiFi

      Thanks

Have you got a working telephone service at your new property? If so then use the current connections as a guide when replacing the master socket. If not you may need an engineers visit to get your new services up and running.

      Thanks Seawright

No working telephone. No internal wires or phone sockets. It looks like the previous owners took all the extension sockets and master socket.

You can see the clips where cabling has been and holes/discoloured patches where something has been screwed to some walls.

There is a hole in the wall where the BT cable comes up from the ground but the cable is not attached to anything.

If you don't have a master socket fitted you will have to get one fitted by BTO. The master socket is the demarcation point of the wiring, BTO are responsible for it and all the wiring to the exchange. BTO will not do this for a private user, you will have to go through Sky or whoever you choose to be your supplier.

Since the master socket and the wiring could be considered as fittings and fixings you may have a claim against the vendor of the property if they and the wiring were removed without them telling you on the pre-contract forms.

      Thanks Felix

We should have a claim against the seller for quite a few reasons but firstly the conveyancing company are not proper solicitors and do not want to get involved in "contentious issues", secondly we have no forwarding details. The sellers solicitor and estate agents are relying on so called data protection to give me the sellers new address.

I wanted to fix this myself to avoid high fees to BT/OR. Looks like I will have to pay the money to have this sorted.
