      New vDSL faceplate-VTE2015

We have a new vDSL faceplate available which is backwards compatible with ADSL. Unlike the BT versions this doesn't feature a REIN filter, the latest BT version (the Mk3) has quite an aggressive REIN filter which can result in reduced speed (decreased disconnects being the trade off). Would this be a better faceplate than the "OpenReach" one I had fitted by the BT engineer?

Specifically which faceplate do you have at the moment? BTO engineers have installed a few different ones in the past few years.

Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro: Connected at 80,000 kbps / 20,000 kbps
Previous ADSL2+ Speed 19999 kbps 1153 kbps, Line Attenuation 17.5 db 6.9 db, Noise Margin 7.5 dB 8.7 dB
      Speedtest: 17.15MB/s 0.97Mb/s Ping 31 ms

As above, which version? The main selling point on the VTE2015 is no REIN filter (which can improve stability at the expense of sync speed). The VTE & BTO versions are the best you can get, I doubt you would see any difference unless you have a Mk3 vDSL plate which can really lower sync speed.

I don't think there is single case of the MK3 faceplate lowering sync speed.

An RF3 might do that as it causes some VDSL frequencies to be more attenuated than without it but the MK3 faceplate has very little (if any) attenuation on VDSL frequencies, with it being designed specifically for FTTC.

      I'm on ADSL & generally sync around 21900 / 1160.
That's with a sagem 2504n router & i'm quite sure a sky hub would yield nearer 1350 upstream.

My older NTE-2005 faceplate seems to perform slightly better than the bt VDSL MK2 that's gathering dust somewhere.
Initial sync speeds after switching faceplates are always similar, however with the the MK2 they do tend to gradually drop over time - perhaps 500Kbps over 2 months.

I've switched faceplates several times now & stick with the NTE-2005.

I sync at well over 75,000 so it is very unlikely to be worth faffing about, to be honest

That isn't what our customers have found. The REIN filter in the Mk3 appears to be the exact same one found in the RF3. The MK2 & MK1 were also both specifically designed for VDSL, the MK2 REIN filter wasn't anywhere near as aggressive & the MK1 had no REIN filter what so ever.

As I am sure you are aware the NTE2005 was specifically designed for ADSL, the MK2, although backwards compatible, is designed for VDSL. I would guess the MK2 REIN filter may be affecting some of the ADSL frequencies?

Yes, i thought it was just coincidence at first which is why i've swapped them over so many times.

Worst case scenario for me would be to sync at 22150, switch to the MK2 faceplate & be at 21000 after 3 or 4 months.
      It's strange.
Personally i'd have thought that anything detrimental about the MK2 would have an immediate rather than gradual effect.

I can honestly say we've not had any reports from anyone else with that, in fact most reports are for better speeds after fitting the vDSL even to ADSL lines! It's an odd one, did you get the Mk2 from us?
