Yes, I have about 20 metres of CAT5e lying around that I can use.

      One last question.

Would I be best buying a prefiltered extension socket as my Sky HD will attach to this and I have heard of problems with adsl2 and Sky and also attach the supplied dongle as well just for good measure?

Sorry i don't follow, do you mean one of these ?

      BT Socket, Master, ADSL Filtered

If you are fitting an NTE5 with a filtered faceplate then you only need a standard secondary socket-the extension runs back to the NTE5 and runs off the already filtered connections. No need to filter twice.

      ADSL Nation LTD.

      I was thinking of this.

I realise that the extenstion will run off the filtered master but have been told that it may not be enough with Sky and ADSL2 (specifically BE Broadband) and that adding another filter can be beneficial.

Sounds like overkill but for the sake of a tenner I don't mind.

Re: Wiring woes, need a little help.

The only difference on that faceplate is that it would allow you to have an ADSL connection too, this would mean the faceplate on the NTE5 is useless mind unless you plan to plug a phone in there too?

Re: Wiring woes, need a little help.

      Apologies for not being clear.

The extension socket will have my telephone attached and my Sky HD box.

The NTE5 socket will just have the modem/router attached.

I know it sounds silly but the wiring for the Sky HD is already attached to the extension and would not reach anywhere else, thats why I'm keeping it

Re: Wiring woes, need a little help.

Sky HD = Normal telephone connection?

All you need to do is :-

Fit NTE5 as close to the incoming cable as possible, fit filtered faceplate to this.

Connect extension that goes to where your telephone/Sky HD is to the filtered connections on the faceplate.

Connect router via RJ45 to RJ11 cable to faceplate ADSL socket.

Re: Wiring woes, need a little help.

      Sounds good to me.

On your last point, how come you use a RJ45 to RJ11, is this better somehow, I thought the cable was RJ11 to RJ11 for a mode/router, or are you saying I can just attach the cable directly to the switch bypassing the RJ11.

      Apologies for my ignorance.

Re: Wiring woes, need a little help.

The ADSL socket on the NTE2000 faceplate(& others) is RJ45, RJ11 will fit in them OK but obviously using RJ45 means there will be no possibilty of movement You can use either, RJ11 to RJ11 or RJ45(faceplate end) to RJ11(router). Some routers have RJ45 for their ADSL port in which case you could use an off the shelf CAT5e patch lead too!
