new NTE5 master - signal worse

Having realised my signal improved by using the master socket I purchased a new master socket from clarity.

However, upon installation of this my up noise margin decreased from 12 to 6. Have resumed to connecting to master socket and my stats are as follows.

      down up
      Data rate 7040 832
      Noise margin 6 12
      output 119 197
      attenuation 31 21

These figures are similar to my reults for the last week and better than before I began my investigations. But are they as good as I should expect from the master socket? Is my purchase faulty or could there be some other cause? a recent line check with BT showed {from BT's point of view} that I do not have any line problems.

      Help & advice appreciated

      Peter

yes, it should be the best, can i confirm you changed the master socket(its illegal - but do i care, i did it) getting a new master usualy does the trick if its old, i got a openreach one
although the data rate could be better, that is sky doing that,

Re: new NTE5 master - signal worse

      Paul,

sorry face plate only changed from phone only to combined adsl & phone. {adsl/nte5/mod from Clarity}. as I said the change from from splitter in master socket to the new faceplate halved the up noise margin, which was the situation before I started investigating problems the new splitter I had fitted a weelk earlier had caused.

To sum up master socket gives the figures quoted, new face plate reduces up noise margin.

      any comment

well, the new plate might be the probem , because apparantly the larger the noise margin the better , but 6 is about right for upto 8 mbp, so any really, ive got the new openreach master nte5 then via cat5e (2m) to a filtered slave, thenfrom there a extention, the router has been tested from the master and filtered and they are the exact same, my noise margin constantly changes from 5-10 and in ok, so its up to you,
      {adsl/nte5/mod from Clarity}.
do you mean i block that plugs into the test socket? - if so, dispise them as i think they are a waste of time, filtered master anyday

yes, one of those, i think they are useless(my opinion) whereas a filtered master socket does a better job

      That is a filtered faceplate

      Peter,
Take of the faceplate and take your stats from the test socket and post them. You obviously have a problem as you should be syncing much higher. Are you using the Sky router? If not please plug it in and take the stats using it.

Also check that when the front plate of the master is removed any extension sockets etc are dead, no dial tones.
