Re: BT NTE faceplate - mine's not connected to anything?

Thanks for your post this morning Isitme, I was worried about which was the true master and was thinking about that rather than the wiring. This is a good example of a line with good stats but poor internal set-up and I think ADSL2+ may well not have performed well without the alterations, I'm sure now that Sky max will produce the goods

Re: BT NTE faceplate - mine's not connected to anything?

Sorry, I should have made it clear - the photo I showed in my original post was simply an example taken from somewhere else to show that some wires were attached to the faceplate - mine didn't have anything connected to it. I thought it would be the easiest way to demonstrate what I meant!

I'm confident now that due to Brian's help, for which I'm very grateful for, I'm in a much healthier position cable-wise for when my Sky broadband is activated.

Maybe we were a bit remiss in not asking you to check your stats again and see if the changes have made any improvement? They should be better, in a lower attenuation, or a higher noise margin.

Burnley PM'ed me with the stats, attenuation and noise margin were broadly the same but sync speed increased a little (can't remember the figures now but there are some posted in this thread)

Re: BT NTE faceplate - mine's not connected to anything?

Great. Now what you have to bear in mind is that none of the work which you have carried out was aimed at improving your already rather good stats, but to ensure that when you switch to Sky Max and ADSL2+ you get the best performance that your line can support.
Many people might say that there was no need to do anything, you could have just switched to Sky and still have got good performance. But you may have not, so much better to get this sorted first, rather than get stuck in some endless series of capped speeds, long phone calls and general Sky dissatisfaction

Re: BT NTE faceplate - mine's not connected to anything?

yes, I do understand that the work that I've carried out is to prepare myself for the switch to Sky Max and ADSL2+ - I'm very grateful for the help you've given me so far Brian!

There was no-one else in the office today, so I couldn't resist getting out a screwdriver and having a look behind the faceplate of a couple of redundant telephone sockets in the office...! I'm obsessed with the interiors of telephone sockets now!

I've just received an e-mail from adslnation to let me know that my order for a new faceplate has been dispatched, so hopefully that will arrive tomorrow. It will be interesting to see what the router stats are when I've installed that.

Just waiting for the MAC code from my existing ISP now, but it's only been 2 days since I requested it.
