Line responsibility

Can someone please clear something up for me.

Is the line from the exchange to the master socket the responsibility of the company you pay the line rental to ?

I have recently had problems with noise on the line, I was told when I rang up that only the outside line would be coverered, *any* internal wiring would be my responsibility.

My outside line goes into a junction box and another line comes out of that and then into the master socket, is this part of the line my responsibility ?

I was under the impression that you weren't allowed to tamper with the master socket, to replace the cable from the junction box to the master socket would be tampering with it.

In my case the fault was on this part of the line, the engineer got a good test on the line from the exchange to the junction box but a poor test from the junction box to the master socket, he swapped wires over and fitted a new master socket and touch wood I have had no more problems.

Thank you in advance for any replies.

Jo

Re: Line responsibility

The line, including and joint boxes and internal wire, up to and including the master socket, is the responsiblity of whoever you pay your line rental to.

You are responsible for any extension wiring connected to the removeable faceplate of a NTE-5 master, or any extension wiring connected by a plug in device to any other form of master socket.

This will all change when BT start using the external NTE's in greater numbers adding more confusion to the "who own's what" question IMO.

Re: Line responsibility

Well it will avoid the confusion between "internal network cable" and customer wiring. In effect everything internal will be the customers responsibilty, sockets, wiring, the lot.
The problems to come will be to do with the state of this internal stuff, why the BB is poor, and who is going to pay to put it right. (external XNTE are only going on new builds at the moment).
Fun and games for all!!

Re: Line responsibility

yep, but my point is to make it cut & dry they would need to fit external NTE's to ALL properties, that will NEVER happen. Interesting times ahead.
