I don't know what that cable is. This sort of thing is getting more common, It's clear that the NTE is an Openreach one (notice the screw terminals and the non-surfacemount overvolt protection) So I know what happened. Somebody asked if the site leckies would be happy to fit the masters, and this is the result.

Having had a longer look at the second pic, that looks like a Traix plate and I think the numbers on the telephone socket are wrong, so if the BT tech has problems with it, ask him/her to try connecting the line to the centre pair of the idc connectors.

Engineer just gone. Yup it was wired back to front. Engineer said he's come across a few like that in new builds.
He wired up all my other points too for no charge. top bloke.
Thanks for the advice on here. Stunned how fast the responses were. Great forum guys.
