Haha!!! plucked up the courage to have a fiddle, and removed the yellow wires. Also reseated a blue one that seemed a bit loose, although i don't know if thats just because of me pulling the plate back and forth off the wall -- I never noticed it loose before.

Anyway:



I tested it earlier this morning, before unplugging, and it was slightly faster - perhaps .5Mb, and lower ping rate, but regardless, it is still a lot better than I was getting before - probably double.

I have already ordered the new faceplate though, together with a long RJ-11 cable so I can keep the router in its normal place and still have it plugged into the master socket.

Currently, I've plugged it back into the extension ... where I am getting exactly the same speed as from the master socket, so I'm well chuffed.

Thanks for all your help guys .. you helped me pluck up the courage to do it myself ... can't believe the bloke was going to charge me £35 to do that!
