      Hi STL.
Yes Yes Yes!! Carry on and get the filter faceplate.
You may not get more speed, but you will aid your stabilty.

This weekend is being spent in restoring an HMV 700 tv from 1937! and I am very happy that I have got a raster from a seventy year old crt.

^^^ Try rebooting the router and see if either the sync or noise margin change. I would expect higher speed and lower SNR after rebooting. If it stays the same it would appear that your line is stable (and capped) so it will be a question of conatcting Sky to get it upped.

I don't know much about the ADSL nation faceplates but I do hear they are good.

      Re: Attenuation/ downstream low

funny you should mention about re-booting, as i did do a little while back, and am now seeing 1952kbps but with 5dB noise (at the moment anyhow!)
ok, brian, if you think it will help things, as theyre not exactly costly are they, not in the grand scheme of things these days

edit just dropped to 4dB as i type this with a reading of 62dB attenuation now
just a small point but the pic i put up of the nte-5 - that is the correct type isnt it? cheers again

      Hi STL.
Yes that Openreach NTE-5 is fine (E-bay?).
As you say, filter faceplates are not that expensive, and as it would appear that you are not capped, it will help with stability. At 60+ attenuation, you are not doing to bad.

Well i've just done a couple downloads 4.5Mb files came down @ 200-230KB/s so am quite happy with that... yes i think im about as far away from the exchange as i could be *sigh
i guess i was just glad when i had finished the re-wire and i still had a connection and a dialtone... i thought id be ok, but ya know how it is, with it being owned by BT n all that

      Re: Attenuation/ downstream low

      Hi.
Thank you, this resoration has been a long term project. I got it at a sale about 5 years ago, and it has taken this long to get hold of all the old bits I needed.
There is something very scary about a 4ft long, 12in dia screen tube, with it's mains derived 5Kv eht supply.
Anyway Look like you are getting towards the magic 2meg, and I am glad that you managed to connect the master up to that short cable

^^^ A bit off topic this but will it get better programmes than we are getting?

      Best of luck with it!

      Re: Attenuation/ downstream low

sounds like fun brian!!! all the best with it.
As for the cable i went outside after chopping the pathetic internal cable, up the ladder pulled that internal through, which after a bit of extra cutting away of frame inside allowed me to get more droplink though... would love to know who put it in though, im no bt engineer, but would have thought they would have put the whole cable inc sheath through, although having said that, the front has been double glazed before my time, ao probably a dodgy window fitter LOL (sheesh no respect for cables some people haha)

oh and errrrm getting those funny neg numbers for noise now 2147483647dB oops
