      OK,

Just spoken to a lovely guy @ sky who ran some line test but could not find a fault. He has escalated to Customer Solutions - who he says can run different tests, but did say they might have to replace the socket! arrggghhh

I haven't read the whole thread, but if you're getting bb sync and no dial tone, then there's no further testing, as such, Customer Solutions need to do. It just needs passed to the Network Operations Centre after checking a few things.

A few things could cause it - temporary exchange issue or the voice port was locked (which has now been unlocked).

Re: Try your master socket for better results

Hi people it's been a while since I posted so here's an update: Sky have managed to up my download speed as follows:

      Router Status
      Firmware Version 2.8Sky
      ADSL Port
      MAC Address
      IP Address
      Network Type MER
      IP Subnet Mask 255.255.255.192
      Gateway IP Address
      Domain Name Server 90.207.238.97 90.207.238.99
      LAN Port
      MAC Address
      IP Address 192.168.0.1
      DHCP enable
      IP Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
      Modem
      ADSL Firmware Version A2pB023o.d20h
      Modem Status Up
      DownStream Connection Speed 4470
      UpStream Connection Speed 796
      VPI 0
      VCI 40
      Wireless Port
      Name (SSID)
      Region Europe
      Current Channel 1
      Wireless AP enable
      Broadcast Name
*Obviously I have removed my IP address etc for security!

Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN MER 486342 631629 0 1829 4630 0:14:03
      LAN 993322 934936 0 12115 9549 1:04:49
      WLAN 0 0 0 0 0 1:04:21
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4402 kbps 796 kbps
Line Attenuation 47.0 db 26.9 db
Noise Margin 9.4 db 14.9 db

This was nice and stable when the network type was PPOA however since it changed to MER I get persistant/frequent drops of connection. I have tried resetting the router (holding the reset button in with a pen for 50 secs) but cannot get it to go back to PPOA. Is the fact that i'm now on MER causing the drop outs? NB I still have my router plugged into the test socket and have got round to fitting an ADSL nation filter plate as I have been ill lately.

All opinions on possible causes for these drop-outs are welcome. Incidently Sky finished another round of line testing/stabalisation on 24th July (I think this is when the network type changed to MER)

Ok so I finally fitted the ADSL Nation filter plate in the method mentioned above. My router is plugged into this and all is good. One question though:

Since the extension are voice only, is it normal for me to hear what sounds like an old dial-up modem connecting through my telephone when I connect to sky active via either of my digiboxes? I only ask as I am sure this didn't happen prior to fitting the filter plate. If I use the phone to try and make a call and use sky active through my digibox I get a line busy error message on the screen. Again is this normal as I can't remember it happening before.

I just wanna make sure I've wired the plate up correctly!

Yes it is quite normal, the Sky box actually uses a dial up modem to communicate. You might not remember it happening before, but I can assure it did. Using a dial up modem, unlike broadband, blocks the line for voice operation.

Cheers Isitme: This of course is logical (as I should/do normally know! ) Guess I just haven't engaged my brain into gear yet!

If I post you my router stats, can you tell me if I am likely to still be on SVBN? I am not convinced sky have reprofiled me.

      Thanks

It would be better if you start another thread in the Help section, we can then look at your stats and advise accordingly.

Thanks, I have started a new thread here: Fitted ADSL Nation XTE-2005 - Can I get more Speed?

Please can you pop over to it and answer my questions

      Thanks
