@NewsreadeR
You setup sounds very similar to mine (though you've reconnected 2 and 5 but it sounds like they're not needed) right down to the disconnected Sky+ box.

The comment about not using an IDC tool caused me to gasp, however! The gap between the blades is very precise designed to strip the wire sheath without breaking the core. A flat blade screwdriver can separate the blade adding to the impedence of the connection. In your case, I'm sure you were meticulous, however.

I pushed the wire to the left and right of the sharp bit so didnt actually widen the gap

Piece of cake really, start to finish about 45 seconds

Talking

I've just bought and fitted the ADSL Nation XTE-2005 Master Faceplate

My stats have gone from

Mid Package From Extension Socket With A Standard Dangly Filter Fitted On Ethernet Wired Stable Connection

Sync Speed Down:2722 Kbps Up:385 Kbps
Line Attenuation Down:53.5 db Up:32.4 db
Noise Margin Down:8.0 db Up:19.7 db

To

Mid Package Now From BT Master Socket With XTE-2005 Master Faceplate Fitted Using A Wireless Connection

Sync Speed Down:5235 Kbps Up:380 Kbps
Line Attenuation Down:53.5 db Up:32.3 db
Noise Margin Down:7.2 db Up:20.3 db

My SPEED has nearly DOUBLED so fitting this item is highly recommended if it's suitable for your particular location. Do the test on your master socket first though!!!!!

Unfortunately probably due to the mad rush to buy from new Sky users it's now out of stock until 15th November but worth waiting for to order!!!

Would also like to recommend the following as a reasonably cheap PCI Network Adapter if you prefer an internal card rather than a USB Dongle - does what it says on the tin.

That's a long wait if you're desperate.

I'm sure I've seen other suppliers of these things (can't vouch for quality though).

If you really can't wait then you could always get BT round. Call 150 and they'll make an appointment. They will charge £65 to replace a mastersocket with a filtered one I believe.

I got one fitted and my connection speed nearly doubled too and the evening noise margin drop isn't so severe.

OK so how about this then - although as you said earlier can't vouch for the quality of any of the alternatives.
