What a busy 48 hours - We blame Skoogle
Posted 09-11-07 at 01:31 AM by NewsreadeR
For those of you who have not already realised, Sky have migrated 1.1 million email accounts to Google Mail, now known as Skoogle on SkyUser.
Obviously things were not fully thought through, or something has gone dreadfully wrong. We had broken all records on 7th November for our visitor statistics. At one point we had to reboot our server as it had completely locked up.
Thursday 8th was even busier for us and we now have a record of 803 visitors online at one time, reading our forums. This does not include visitors to any of our none forum pages, or any of the pages that you have to be logged into.
What happened?
Well Sky obviously did not think through what might happen when 1 million or so customers, decide to visit Sky's Tools in one go.
Answer: Your website goes down, for hours.
I hope that Sky have the guts to post an explanation, on what happened and sincerely apologise to all of their customers.
For the forum staff, its been a busy 2 days constantly checking and moderating posts and also manually activating those on a Sky IP and Sky Email addy, that registered with us.
