Hooking up an additional wireless rotuer (ASUS RT-AC88U)

As the wireless coverage in my house with the Sky Q hub is poor, I've bought an ASUS RT-AC88U wireless router to add to the system as the wireless broadcaster (I intend to turn the Sky wireless off).

Before I hook it up, is there anything I should do? The manual presumes it will be connected to a modem, but I seem to remember that the Sky hub doesn't have a modem-only mode. Will I have to switch the ASUS to some 'access point' mode, or something like that?

Using it in Access Point (AP) mode should be the easiest course of action. Skyeci covered setting up an earlier ASUS router in AP mode in this thread:

If you have an rt-ac88u you may as well get a vdsl modem capable of bridge mode. Put merlin on the Asus and ditch the sky router altogether.....(assuming you are on sky fibre)
The 88u can be your main router if you wish as well as providing wifi to your lan..

As it happens I bought a Billion Electric BiPAC 8800NL v1 router a few weeks ago when I was thinking of doing this. If anyone can kindly guide me through the steps I'll do it. (There were some earlier posts on this, but nothing too detailed, as I remember.)

Cool. Easy as. PM me your real email address. Can send you a config for the 8800nl v1 so it works in bridge if you want.

Download Merlin, install . Config takes a few minutes. Job done.

Asus settings from one of my old posts for setting up merlin...

once merlin is installed you can setup the wan port.

      settings will be
      automatic ip
enter*dns*server address of your choice e.g. 8.8.8.8 (google)
at the bottom of the page you need to enter the login info to make it work with sky
      Manual clientid =
anything@skydsl|anypassword -must be in that format.

plug in the cable from the modem to the wan port and reboot it.

all being well that will get you connected.

there are plenty of posts with further settings but the basics are as I listed above and should get you connected.

Ask if you need any further help.

Okay thanks, I'll DM you soon. Just waiting for another ethernet cable to come in the mail before I can set it all up.
