I’d certainly like to avoid wrecking my r7000 as it’s not the cheapest router out there I’ll see if I can do a bit more digging into the merlin idea and see what people suggest, giving the ddwrt a “try” surely can’t do any harm ?

if the router is still on stock netgear firmware then the suggested XWRT looks favourable. I see there are specific instructions so do follow those.....

If no ddwrt help comes along etc then I think I would be looking at the XWRT link suggested but do take your time.

happy to help with settings if you need any etc if you get it on.

Re: Help required with setting up a netgear nighthawk r7000

I decided to go down the DD-WRT route, i've downloaded the correct files from advancedtomato.com. I've restored the R7000 and backed up the factory settings. Then i selected the initial install file to flash the router with and i get this error - The firmware is not compatiable with your router. Error code -1. I've double and triple checked that they are the correct files for my router. Stumped again not sure what to try next.
