      Schedule Netflix access

      Hi,

      I want to block access to netflix/youtube/iplayer between certain times (eg, 10pm-10am) from all devices (including phones/tablets).

      The sky router I am using (SR102) can not block https sites using the keyword site blocking.
      The only option I can see is to completely block SSL ports between those times, which I don't want to do.

      Is there a way to do this? I am happy to buy any additional hardware required.

      Thanks

      Re: Schedule Netflix access

      You certainly cannot do it with the SR102.

      It is possible using a more advanced firewall-router such as pfSense running the pfblocker package, although pfSense is not for the faint hearted. You may want to look at opendns home internet security; that would mean just setting your DNS pointers to opendns servers. The issue I can see there though is the DNS cache and I'm not sure it supports timed exclusions.

      easiest way = 3rd party router. Plenty of threads about that.

      Yes, don't you run something like that on your Asus?

      Thanks.

      I've read up on the non-sky router guide on this forum. The second hop of a tracert always times out, but the 3rd hop mentions sky.com. So that means I need a broadcom based router.

      Please could I get a recommendation of a router which would suffice? Other than the ability to schedule netflix, I don't need anything fancy, so the cheaper the better. My connection is only used for netflix and web sites anyway.

      Thanks for the suggestion, but if there is an easier option then I would rather take that route.

      Cheers.

      Re: Schedule Netflix access

      best value i reckon would be asus rtac68u (down to 99 quid in places) you will need a Huawei HG612 (or eci alt version) modem though as there is no modem in cable routers. However a split modem router is ideal if you are fiddling with router lots anyway. It has all the controls you could need, parental and DNS in an easy to understand GUI with more advanced commands available via IPset rules as well.

      Thanks.

      I was hoping to spend around 20-40. Are there any near this price range which would suffice?

      Re: Schedule Netflix access

      Unless I am missing something.
      I thought the sr102 could do this if I remember when I had one.
      The sky q hub certainly can;

      http://192.168.0.1/sky_block_sites.html

      To Enable Block Sites

      Select Per Schedule to turn on Block Sites and block according to the settings on the Schedule page.
      Select Always to turn on Block Sites and apply the block at all times.

      Note: On the Schedule page you can set at what time of day the keyword and domain name blocking occurs
      You can also create a custom setting that lets you block or allow specific websites or website categories via a schedule with the Sky broadband Shield;

      First look I've taken at the shield, never used it as I have no need, worth trying as it's free.

      Re: Schedule Netflix access

      If you are on ADSL as your Profile indicates and not Fibre, then you need a router with a built in modem. You could use a cable router with a separate modem, but this is probably more expensive and more difficult to set up. You would be better sticking to a combined unit. Make sure you get one that mentions ADSL or built in modem.

      Here is a nice one under 40 - https://www.amazon.co.uk/DSL-N10-B1-...us+adsl+router Shop around there are many available,
