      Firewall

I have recently noticed Zonealarm is blocking regular (every few minutes) access to various I.P.s for Sky from my PC. The PC is working fine and is just on and not checking email, no browser is open and nobody is using it at the time.
I have no Sky s/ware on my PC & I don't use Sky email. I cannnot see an entry in regedit for Sky or in programs and features either.
I am wondering why it does this and why I have only just noticed it ?

      Re: Firewall

Have you done a reverse DNS to see who the addresses belong to?

Usually this will be down to some browser add-in that shuffled its way onto your system. Then there are the likes of Adobe reader that go off to check on updates etc.

      Re: Firewall

ZA has a long history of screwing up PC's in some shape or form.

If you must have a software firewall try PrivateFirewall

I've used it for years. There's a small learning curve but once trained it's pretty much fuss free.

      Re: Firewall

I think he is seeing little people trying to access his system(s). ZA would not flag up random *******.skybroadband.com addresses.

I run a couple of servers and my firewall ( in the router ) would pick up some *.skybroadband.com addresses trying to gain access on some of my open ports, also my server log would show them too. I stopped them by just putting a block on those IP ranges in the router, same as I have done with certain Chinese and HK IP blocks.

Certainly made it a lot quieter!

      Re: Firewall

If the router is working properly ZA should not see any illegal attempts to access the PC. They should be stopped by the router firewall. Software firewalls are not really required to stop incoming traffic, only illegal outgoing, maybe from some spyware which has installed itself on the PC.
