Unhappy Getting the Asus DSL-AC68U to work with Sky Fibre ?

Hi - First post and of course I need help

Had Sky ADSL for years and only hack I did was change router to my own Netgear preference using User/Pass hack from this site years ago.

Upgraded to Sky Fibre 2 months ago and used the SR102 but the wireless connection was worse than with my Netgear ADSL router.

Waited for and just got an Asus DSL-AC68U (Networking - DSL-AC68U - ASUS) from eBuyer - sadly I can't get it working.

      - Upgraded firmware to latest (3.0.0.4.376_2050)
      - QIS (Quick Install Wizard) does show Sky Fibre but there i don't get an option to add User/Pass
      - Tried various settings but although a DSL
nnection is show it does not connect and provide an internet session
      - Looked online but as this is a less than 3 week old router theres not much there

I am hoping someone has some more guidance - The fact Sky Fibre option comes up (and it was there before the firmware upgrade) it should work?

      Cheers!

Have you had a look here - [Guide] How to connect DSL-N66U to Sky Fibre It is a very similar router so may be of some help.

Re: Getting the Asus DSL-AC68U to work with Sky Fibre ?

Thanks Isitme - that doesn't help as the configuration options and pages are different.

Got this email from Asus Support which confirms they don't support it yet ....

Thank you for contacting the Asus Support team. We are sorry to hear you are having difficulty with your DSL-AC68U.

Sky Fibre is using MER authentication method that stands for "MAC Encapsulated Routing".
At the moment there is no option to enter user name and password for SKY Fibre users.
There doesn't appear to be any firmware update that will give you the MER connection type.
I already requested information from my level 2 if the option will be supported in the future.

Should you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to get back in touch with us.

      Kind regards,

Re: Getting the Asus DSL-AC68U to work with Sky Fibre ?

      Hi

Currently status is it won't work - reply from Asus Support below - personally keeping router and will figure out how to use it connected to the Sky Hub albeit connected to its 100Mbps Ethernet port.

Sure Asus will figure out how to it to authenticate at some point...or someone else will...I'll certainly keep playing.

Basically don't buy it now for Sky - RT-AC68U may be better option connected to Sky Hub.

Re: Getting the Asus DSL-AC68U to work with Sky Fibre ?

      Hello
I have just got my ASUS DSL AC68U working with sky fibre(not pro).

I used wireshark to get my @skydsl username and password, though you need to follow these steps exactly as the youtube video says.

sky appear to use MER for their transmition and PTM for network connection type.

so first using asus quic connection icon setup an oridinary ADSL connecton to SKY MER. use auto settings for IP and DNS
This will allow you to put your PPP password and username at the bottom of the page
you can also setup your wireless SSID`s next.
follow this secion through and click next/ok at the end

you should now get/have a ADSL WAN UP now, but no internet.

click to go into WAN page
you will see a connection has been made for ADSL WAN(ATM). if you edit this it should have your @skydls deatails you entered before.

Back to the WAN index page
Now change the WAN index-WAN TYPE to------ VDSL WAN(PTM).
click the + to ADD a New PVC
      now EDIT PVC.
      WAN connection type-------Automatic IP
      Enable WAN -----------------yes
      Enable NAT-------------------yes
      Enable UPnP------------------yes

      802.1q
      Enable----------------yes
      VLANID--------------101

WAN DNS server 1---90.207.238.97 NB you can choose to connect automatically if you wish.
      WAN DNS server 2---90.207.238.99

      Special Requirements from ISP
MAC address ( you find this from sky sr102 modem under "BROADBAND PORT" (its not then one on the back of the SR102 as this is slightly different)

click ok and wait for your internet to connect.

      also
I have found that wireless connetions need to be at single bandwidths ie 20Mz for 2.4Ghz and 80Mhz for 5G (this works for me but you can try others)

Hope this helps/points in the right direction

      Good Browsing!!!
      Andy

Re: Getting the Asus DSL-AC68U to work with Sky Fibre ?

Cheers Andy....yes you should get a job with them!

Never thought of trying ADSL connection first to get the U/P added in a profile - clever!

Not tried it yet as my speed has not improved much after Pro upgrade so once I have been around the town with Sky/Openreach to make sure they troubleshoot/fix it with the SR102 I will add the 68U on and give this a go.

Should that read SR102 or am I missing something?
