Re: What non-Sky router will give me the best speed.
I got them to increase my cap to 9 and now I get:
Downstream Upstream
Line Coding(Trellis): On On
SNR Margin (0.1 dB): 69 152
Attenuation (0.1 dB): 455 270
Output Power (0.1 dBm): 191 121
Attainable Rate (Kbps): 9576 1101
with speedtest results per my sig
I downloaded Ubuntu (seemed like a good large file) and I got about 798kbps from my download manager with 12 connections active. The router xDSL stats show:
Should I be worried about the RS errors?Last edited by robn170; 04-12-11 at 08:36 AM.

Re: What non-Sky router will give me the best speed.
Can someone confirm that it is definite that if you are on easynet you will have Conexant kit at the exchange.
I only ask as I have just connected up a DG834v5. Upgraded the firmware to latest on my network and feel things are slightly worse.
In call of duty I was getting into games with less than 75ms ping all the time, now its games less than 100ms with the DG834v5 with the Conexant chip inside.
I am not sure if to perservere or go back to the DG934 with DGTeam FW on (the reason I upgraded is I have been getting massive lag, really bad lag with it).

Re: What non-Sky router will give me the best speed.
Could I suggest that you start a new thread to discuss your stats?
To the best of my knowledge the Easynet equipment is all Conexant kit. Perhaps there is something else which has happened and needs to be looked at?
To start the thread, I would suggest that you post both sets of connection stats and ping results.

its easy to tell
post your stats from the sky modem
then post your stats from the netgear v5

Re: What non-Sky router will give me the best speed.
I'm on the Easynet gear so emailed Billion to confirm. Their response was ...
"Regards the matching of chipsets between Exchange and router there is no definitive proof that a Conexant/Conexant solution would necessarily be better than a Conexant/Broadcom, so I wouldn’t base your decision on that."
and ...
"Both are good performers, the Broadcom is widely viewed as the best ADSL chip on the market."
As a recap, apparently the 7800N has the Broadcom and the 7402NX has the Conexant.

Re: What non-Sky router will give me the best speed.
Chipsets are changing and improving all the time. Whilst the advice provided in this document was good when it was composed, much of it is still true today. The difference isn't always that huge.
Any new routers which come to the market place with newer chip sets may well perform even better on both Cenexant and Broadcom based LLU equipment.
I believe that the Sagem 2504N uses a Broadcom chipset.

Re: What non-Sky router will give me the best speed.
They have got slightly better but are nowhere near a match for a paired modem
on my line
20300 down 984 up Sagem 2504 (Broadcom)
20480 down 1030 up Sky Dlink (Broadcom)
22800 down 1216 up Billion 7402x (Conexant Solos W)
this is with no messing with settings and such default syncLast edited by Shonk; 10-07-12 at 06:02 AM.

Re: What non-Sky router will give me the best speed.
You are right Subbie. The technology of chip set is developing there might some will some which work with both Cenexant and Broadcom based equipment.
