DG834GT - Recovery Utility

Hi all,

My Sky DG834GT router suddenly failed with the power and status lights flashing alternately. I rang Sky and they sent me a new router.

This is fine but I've been sent a Sagem which isn't 108Mbps and also does not have a directional antenna.

I would really like to use my DG834GT because of the above so have tried to use the UpgradeWizard.exe utility on the Sky CD to try and flash the router with a new firmware to bring it out of its failed state.

I've tried this on 3 PC's now (2 Vista and 1 XP) and none of the PC's find the router - the list just comes up blank. I've read that the UpgradeWizard.exe utility can be tempremental but I just wondered if anyone here had experienced this and found a way around it? I've also tried downloading the utility from the Netgear website just in case they were offering a newer version but it's still the same.

Any help greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Re: DG834GT - Recovery Utility

sorry but if you cannot see the router you cant flash it , this is reason for non flash of router as you have tried different pcs and os still no contact with router im afraid its dead , although 1 thing left to try if you have done it yet , take out power supply hold reset button for 10 secs , just before you release reset button plug power supply back in (this may get a response) good luck

Using the method linked above, post 8 will work. The reason the router is not seen is that the utility does not recognise a DG834GT under certain circumstances. Fooling it into thinking it is a DG834PN, invariably works.

Using Vista you must change the compatibility mode to XP and Run as Administrator.

Re: DG834GT - Recovery Utility

only if you can ping the router , basic networking if you detect the router you have a chance if undetectable no way applies to all flashable equipment , this is why flashing is often last resort to fix problems and because often is last resort will not work

Re: DG834GT - Recovery Utility

It depends, if the router is in 'flashing mode' it will not be pingable. What the OP describes could be flashing mode, ie alternately flashing lights or it could mean the router is faulty. If you search around the forum you will find several instances of apparently 'dead' routers being brought back to life.

Re: DG834GT - Recovery Utility

Thank you all for your replies. Isitme, thanks - the info you linked to (Post 8) did indeed work and my router is now back up and running.
