2 modems 2 usernames/passwords

I dont understand how i can use my friends sagem (sky) router,untouched,and it connects to my pc and my brodband connection?
ive run the username password checker and now have 2 sets of them mine and his,why does this work? but my new buffalo modem wont.

usernames aren't linked to you - any Sky router will work on an Sky line...so long as the router isn't blocked at Sky's end...
