Non-sky connection ADSL

At my university residence we had some serious line trouble affect both phone and internet. BT claimed to have fix that earlier today and although the router can sync at max speed (8128 kbps) with a noise margin of 9-10. We can only get 130 kb download.

What are FECs?

I phoned plusnet (our ISP) they think the exchange has capped us because of the bad connection. They say we have to wait 3 days for it to readapt.

More than possible. The exchange will have reprofiled your throughput.

after a phone line gets fixed BT will throttle the line for 3 days...speed should then jump up to be in line with the sync rate...

Your downstream connection SNR is kinda low and theres some errors on the line (FEC's/ CRC's etc...) that could be causing a bit of slow connection there.

It's been 3 days and the speed has only increased to 230.
