Belkin N1 Router will not connect
Hello everyone, i recently bought a belkin n1 wireless modem router. I wanted to use this one as im fed up like many others on here regarding problems with the signal and cut outs with skys netgear router.
I have managed to obtain my user name and password from my netgear router by following the instructions on this forum.
Now ive set my new belkin n1 router up with all the correct details, but it simply will not pick up a signal from my bt telephone socket. It just says disconnected all the time. Ive had to plug my netgear one back in so i could get back some sort of internet access.
Does anyone know how i could get it working, ive tried everything i can think of, but the belkin simply will not connect to the internet.
Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanx you.

Re: Belkin N1 Router will not connect
so you're not even getting the adsl light to come up? that would indicate the router not being plugged into the line correctly wouldn't it?
as a test, put it into your (master) phone socket with just a filter and see what happens...

Re: Belkin N1 Router will not connect
Are you using the same cable as the Netgear to connect to the phone line? If you are not try it, it may be something as simple as a duff cable.

Re: Belkin N1 Router will not connect
Hello, i have tried using the netgear telephone wire and micro filter, the belkin will not pick up any sort of telephone signal, the blue light starts flashing and then turns orange, to indicate to signal from the bt master socket. When i plug the netgear back in, everything works fine and i can connect to the internet. Could sky have done something to my BT line?

Re: Belkin N1 Router will not connect
It's not indicating no signal, it is indicating it cannot connect. Check the settings again, I think you have something wrong. Take a picture of the Netgear settings and print it out so you can go through them one at a time, some of the settings for Sky's LLU are different to the standard exchange equipment.
Sky won't have done anything to your BT connection.

Re: Belkin N1 Router will not connect
I think it is more likely you have set up the router wrongly. There are some which come with default USA settings, instead of UK. Have a look at this page - Non-Sky Router Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Make sure that the following particulars are correctly entered in the router -
Encapsulation: PPPoA (you may have set this to PPPoE)
VPI 0
VCI: 38
Multiplexing: VC

Re: Belkin N1 Router will not connect
i have put all these settings in and double checked them, there is simply no internet dial tone when i plug the belkin in. The router simply fails to pick up a signal and the light goes from blue to orange. I just dont know why, my phone is working normally aswell. Mayb ill have to take it back to argos and buy a 50ft RJ45 cable and run it all the way downstairs to the crappy netgear router, what i knightmere, wish i stayed with virgin now.

Re: Belkin N1 Router will not connect
If the other router works fine then you may have a faulty Belkin.

Re: Belkin N1 Router will not connect
A faulty router is a possibility. You could connect it to the Netgear with a short ethernet cable to get the benefit of the superior wireless, but it is not an ideal solution. Do you know anyone else with broadband that would allow you to test it on their connection. Preferably not Sky.
