Need broadband help

Hello,

My internet connection keeps disconnecting at random intervals. I have rewired my internal phone wiring to cat5 cable and there is now one cable running from were the master socket used to be (old socket has been removed and wire connectors used to connect from the BT line on to the cat5 cable directly), to the new master socket, 48 odd meters away (cable length). Rewired because was told by BT engineer that was the problem.

The router stats are as follows:
Down | UP
Data Rate(kbps) 2673 | 443
Noise Margin(db) 16.8 | 24.6
Output power(db) 12.8 | 0.0
Attenuation(db) 43.5 | 23.2

The connection runs at 4 meg on occasion but seems to be jumping between 2 and 4 meg.

It ran perfect for the first 3 to 4 hours after i made the cable change today, and now is playing up again.

Any ideas,

Thanks
Andrew

Re: Need broadband help

Have you tried moving the router to as close as the master socket (if thats possibile) and taking the stats from the test socket, situated behind the master socket. If they improve , and as they are similiar to mine they should do. It would mean that you have a problem with your internal wiring

Re: Need broadband help

Hello,
Thanks for the reply and it is as close to the master socket as can be.
I have been talking to fiberoptic on msn and he has advised me on what the issue maybe.
So I may post what happens up here, but thanks for replying.

Re: Need broadband help

I don't know what you have been advised, but it looks to me like you have been capped. This could be down to your old wiring, especially if you phoned Sky or your line has been auto graded. I would phone Sky and ask them to lift the cap as you have now made improvements to your wiring which make it unnecessary. Your line should support another 3Mbs, giving you 5,5-6Mbs.

Re: Need broadband help

is the OP even on Sky?...profile doesn't say and stats don't look like they're taken from a Sky router...

Re: Need broadband help

Well it certainly comes under the "not supported by Sky" in that case.
