Setting up wireless bridge

Hi, I am trying to set up a wireless bridge between upstairs and downstairs. The downstairs router is the one supplied by sky. It is a netgear but does not show a model number on it so I am unsure what type it is. Upstairs I can either use a netgear dg833G v3 or a reflashed bt home hub that is a speedtouch 7g. I cannot see on either of these a way to put them into bridged mode, so wondered if anyone has any tricks to get one of them to work.

Thanks,

Spud

Re: Setting up wireless bridge

How many computers will you have on your downstairs network (and also how many on your upstairs network)?

Re: Setting up wireless bridge

At the moment there are 4 downstairs. 3 pc's and an xbox. Upstairs is an xbox and future plans are for a laptop. Both xboxes are running xbmc, hence I want the upstairs one on the network so I can play movies of my samba share from downstairs.

Re: Setting up wireless bridge

So it's worthwhile investing in a decent network! I personally wouldn't try to do it wirelessly. If you can't run a LAN cable between the two floors then I'd be tempted to use HomePlug LAN over 240v mains cable for that purpose. You could then have one of the routers connected to the Internet and connecting either by LAN cable or WiFi to the computers close by. Then the HomePlug giving a link upstairs and connecting to the other router which again would feed the nearby computers by WiFi or LAN cable. You could use the existing routers but would need to play around with the 2nd router to get the correct IP addressing.
