New Router - Advice Required

Good afternoon all, I am looking at buying a router to replace the Netgear DG834GT V1 as the wireless is simply not good enough to allow me to use my laptop in various parts of the house.

I am looking at the Belkin n router range as a friend has this router and gets fantastic wireless range.

Can anyone advise if these routers are any good? and can anyone suggest good alternatives?

I too have heard good reports about the Belkins.

Be advised, you are breaking the T and C's by using your own router, so its your decision 100% to do so.

Have you tried changing the wireless channel?

Re: New Router - Advice Required

No not tried changing the channel, is this easy to do and will it make a considerable difference?

I have read the posts re non sky routers and I cannot belive Sky are so small minded re the use of other equipment. I have contacted them to ask about range extenders only to be told to reposition my router!!!

Re: New Router - Advice Required

Changing the channel is real easy.

Log into the router

http://192.168.0.1

Username: admin
Password: sky (or whatever you changed it to)

1) Click Wireless settings

2) Top bit, SSID etc there should be a drop down box, try choosing 11

3) Click apply

4) Try and see if it any better

PS: If it don't let you change it you need to change from Auto to one of the others and try from step 2) again

Re: New Router - Advice Required

I purchased a Belkin N1 router with the LED screen. It works the nuttz with sky broadband! just make sure you you use the M.A.C address from your old router otherwise for some reason it will only work a 2mbs ?

Re: New Router - Advice Required

Changed the channel on the router and it did improve the wireless connection but not greatly. I have ended up buying a Belkin N1 router and using this as an access point only.

I now have wireless all over the house and in the garden!!!

Cheers for the suggestions!
